The Red Cross Society, the worldwide humanitarian organization, commemorates this Day ( May 8, 2023) in UTs of Jammu and Kashmir; and Ladakh elsewhere in India and worldwide with the theme” Everything we do comes #fomtheheart” with eagerness and commitment. The WHO ( World Health Organisation notice the Day with different themes every year to sensitize the general masses about health issues and ensure adequate medical services with the general objective of “Health for All”. This year’s theme is significant and needs to be focused attention by one and all citizens.

The primary aim of celebrating World Health Day is to ensure the well-being of humanity irrespective of religion, caste, colour or gender. This movement has a global network of selfless services to mitigate suffering from artificial or natural calamities. This organization has a proud record of helping in India and the strategic and diplomatic border areas of Jammu and Kashmir over the years. These past months and years have been noticeable by multiple crises that have spared no one and hit the most complex, vulnerable people, but we have come out of each case with victory. The humanitarian emergencies and other issues underline the requirement for such bodies like the Red Cross Society or agencies-official and non-official to reduce the sufferings of humanity.

Vital Theme

This year’s theme: “Everything we do comes from the heart” by the Cross Society, is being noticed on May 8, 2023, in Jammu and Kashmir with ardour like other parts of the country and across the globe. A variety of public-participated programmes have been chalked out for this purpose.

Red Cross Day is noticed on May 8, the birth anniversary of Jean Henri Dunant, the originator of this great humanitarian move worldwide. After a traumatic personal battle experience in Solferino, Mr Dunant, a Swiss businessman, noted a book,” A Memory of Solferino “, and pleaded for forming all country’s voluntary relief societies to work on the battlefield. And in 1864, the early Red Cross Society approached into being, but then it was cramped to medical control and welfare of wounded soldiers. Subsequently, it tackles all other health works as well

Vision and Mission

This company has a Charter of Seven Fundamental Principles: mortal, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality for mitigating human suffering.
Now, tangible schemes like mobilizing resources, enrolment of volunteers and their training, and vigorous implementation of essential projects are underway for the benefit of the weak and distressed.
Indian Red Cross Society, the national federation of over 600 boughs in the country with its headquarters in New Delhi, do inspire, encourages and initiates all forms of humanitarian activities. Its role under the India Red Cross Society Act passed in 1920. At the state level, the President of India is Chief Patron, spell Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha heads its Jammu and Kashmir UT branches.
