Rey was first introduced in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. An air of mystery surrounded her past. Not only did he have similar humble beginnings to Luke Skywalker, but he also possessed immense power thanks to his connection to the Force. From there, he began his path to becoming a Jedi, encountering the disillusioned Luke Skywalker and confronting the forces of the First Order.
In all of this, however, he went by the name Ray, his last name remaining a mystery. But in reality, the sequel trilogy was not about who Rey was but how she acquired the name Skywalker.
Although the circumstances of how he took on Skywalker were unorthodox, as he did so, only Rey laid to rest the family that carried her name and then gazed at the binary sunset, feeling ready to embark on something extraordinary with a fresh start chance—the life he was given a new trilogy is coming soon, with one of the movies dedicated to exploring a particular topic. He will relaunch the Jedi Order; it’s important to remember why he took the name Skywalker and how, by using that name, Luke’s dream of living the Jedi life is promised. May run through her.
Friday’s Star Wars Celebration was the announcement we’ve all been waiting for – news of the future of the golden space saga on the big screen. Because it’s all about experiencing every tremendous new episode of The Mandalorian that debuts on Disney+ right in our own homes; Seeing Luke Skywalker restored to his lightsaber-wielding prime in The Book of Boba Fett by the power of motion capture is wonderful; And it’s interesting to witness how complex, cosmic political manoeuvring on Coruscant insidiously feeds into the bloody-fake daily lives of the galactic hoi polloi on Andor, but this is Star Wars we’re talking about.
When Yoda reveals under the X-Wing landing lights that another Jedi hopes there is still; In the Star Wars movie, Darth Vader reveals to Luke that he is his father, despite Luke’s initial disbelief. is not as simple as might have led him to believe; When the Death Star blows up to smithereens in 1977’s series opener – all of these moments draw much of their splendour from the shared experience that comes with watching a movie in a movie theatre, rapping in the dark in hundreds of fellow souls. In many ways, Star Wars is the movie for more than one generation. So it’s been a strange experience to see the story slowly evolve on the small screen after the abysmal failure of 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, even as The Mandalorian, Inside, and the upcoming Ahsoka (all of which are genuinely thrilling Celebration updates) have already done a lot to keep fans happy.
In The Last Jedi, Kylo Ren announced that Rey did not have a remarkable past and was instead a junker’s daughter, abandoned for nothing more than drinking money. Although it seemed like a shock at the time, The Rise of Skywalker proved it to be a mind game played by the Sith to get Rey on her side. She was the granddaughter of Emperor Palpatine. This is why his connection to the Force was so strong, as it made him the perfect vessel for his soul to reside in and be used to lead the Final Command to conquer the galaxy.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy revealed at Excel in London that the Disney-owned studio now envisions Star Wars as a story that takes place across a period, from the early days of the Jedi to the rise of Skywalker to a time in the future. As we’ve already seen with the fantastic Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, there’s plenty of fertile ground for the period right after the original trilogy takes place, as the last remnants of the fallen Empire battle the forces of the New Republic. And Celebration has confirmed that Star Wars stalwart Dave Filoni will oversee a new film expected to be a pivotal cinematic event for shows like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka. Baby Yoda and Mando on the big screen? It was supposed to happen; now it will happen.
The second new film, it was revealed, will see James Mangold overseeing the set of an early Force story. The main character of the report will be a Jedi who uses their powers to fight against oppression in the Age of Chaos will learn.
